Calling Yourself “Self-Made” Is Bullshit

I always find it funny to read the term self-made somewhere or hear someone say that he is a self-made man because how big of an egocentric man you got to be to call yourself self-made?

It is true that those people really came a long way. It is true that most of them started with nothing. It is true that they worked harder than anyone else around them to get to where they are now. But it is not true that they are ,and anyone ever else will be, self-made.

To get somewhere in life we are all dependent on at least some sort of help. This applies to everyone. I’ve never come across one single person whose life wasn’t build on a foundation of parents, friends, teachers, and mentors.
We all have that one beautiful soul that we can always rely on, no matter what is going on. They give us a place to stay when we have nowhere to go. They support us when we most need it.
We all have someone who shares wisdom and advice with us. In times of darkness that’s the person we go to.
We all have some sort of idol in our lives. Although we might only know them from posters or the internet, they motivate us when we feel like giving up.

You might have that big vision. You might have that fire in your soul. But where would you really be without the help of all those people? Odds are, right where you began.

So how can you ever claim to be self-made? To say that to yourself  is an insult to every person and every piece of adive that got you here. You are only making a fool of yourself by believing that you are self-made. But the worst thing is that it gives the wrong impression to anyone that looks up to you: That they can do it alone.
I can’t. All the people I know or heard of can’t. You probably can’t. And those who look up to you probably can’t do it either.

We all need fuel to be added to our fire to keep it burning. Without the help, support, advice, and inspiration of others, we wouldn’t have that fuel and would be stuck with nowhere to go.

I bet you have learned something from all of them and oftentimes picked up something you didn’t expect. I bet that a big part of your day is designed after the pieces of advice you have received from others and implemented them in your life. Whether it’s your morning routine, your training, the way you treat people, the philosophy you live your life by, even the things you eat, or just motivation to get through your day.

The world is a classroom where you soak up lessons to add fuel to your fire. There will always be moments in life when you need outside motivation and advice. There will be a lot of times when you don’t have the answer to your problem and you are forced to look beyond yourself.

You can admit that you can’t do it alone. I can’t. Probably no one can. To deny it is just plain wrong.
So please stop calling yourself self-made because in reality none of us is.

Wealth

We all want it. Each and every one of us.
Maybe some more than others.
We all know that we want it.
There is no denying it.
But we all want it a different way.

To be wealthy.
But rich in what exactly?

Do we want to be wealthy to escape our worries?
To have no responsibilities?
To be free from guilt?
To be free from grief and desire?

Why are we only talking about wealth when it’s about money?
Isn’t a person who can do every single day the things he love wealthy too?
Isn’t it him who is wealthy because he is free from restraints?
Isn’t a person who is filled with happiness for the rest of his life wealthy too?
Isn’t it him who is wealthy because he recognized what really matters?
Isn’t a person who is blessed with health wealthy too?
Isn’t it him who is wealthy because he is able to move and think freely?

Why is a person only wealthy when he’s accumulated a huge amount of money?
Why is said person so proud of having a huge amount of money,
while having nothing else?
Aren’t those who only have the most money in reality the one’s who are the poorest?
All that money without realizing what really matters.

Driven by greed, power, satisfaction, social status, and approval.
Those people are supposed to be wealthy?
Even though they’ve forgotten what gratitude is?
What it means to be humble?
What appreciation is?
What it means to love?
What it means to be happy?
What it means to be healthy?
They are supposed to be wealthy just because they have money?

Yes, it sucks to have no money in a money driven society.
Yes, it sucks to be regarded as poor.
It sucks to not really live in freedom but just in a small zone of possibilities.
It sucks to not be able to pursue one’s dreams.
It sucks to always face the same recurring problems.
It sucks to live only from paycheck to paycheck,
instead of being able to enjoy the richness of life.
But the truth is we got to eat shit first to be able to enjoy being wealthy.

But if being wealthy means to sell one’s soul,
then I would trade in my money for my older life any time.
I rather die broke but happy and aware of what it really means to be wealthy.
Then I would die rich but spoiled without having lived one single day being actually wealthy.

Everyday

Excuse me but how the fuck are we supposed to get up everyday at 6AM while being thrown out of bed by an stupid alarm, squeeze into uncomfortable clothes, scoff burnt toast, manoeveur one’s car through everday’s traffic or even worse to get once again into the overstuffed metro while doing everything possible to not suffocate in this moving prison, to finally have arrived at that one place where the last glimmer of hope, joy, and happiness vanished years ago, to then make as much money as fast as possible for someone you only see twice a year while you merely get a fraction of it while still having to be thankful for this once in a lifetime “opportunity” and then still be happy and call this a fulfilling life?

Wouldn’t it be nice if the person who is forced to work could wake up to do the things that fulfill him and give him joy?
Wouldn’t it be nice if the person could reap the fruits of their labor while not being forced to give away most of it?

That he could call life. But the other thing isn’t worth being called life.
And maybe, just maybe said person would then really be thankful and happy to be alive.

But instead you are selling this construct to us you call “life”
just to satisfy your greed and to assisst you to accumulate worthless, materialistic possessions just so that you can forget about your inferiority complex.

The Gallery

Imagine your whole life would be exhibit in a gallery.
Every single moment. Everything you have ever experienced. Every single day.
Would you want to see it?
What would the people that visit this gallery think of you?

Would you be proud of your life?
How would you feel while strolling through the gallery?

Every single visitor would know exactly who you really were.
They wouldn’t see the life you wish you could have lived,
but the life you have really lived.

Would you still be proud to show people around the gallery of your life?
If not, you should ask yourself why you don’t want to show your life to the people.

Is it the job that you disliked but still have spent three quarters of your life on?
If that’s the case then 75% of your gallery would be filled with it.

Is it because you have been rude to 90% of the people you have met?

Is it because you only have spent 2% of your time on the things that really fulfilled you?

All of it would be visible for every single visitor in the gallery.

But now imagine that you have made 90% of the people you encountered happy,
and gave them joy, helped them, or just have been nice to them.

Imagine that you have spent 98% of your time on the things that really fulfilled you.
That made you happy. That gave you joy. That gave you meaning.
While you have spent only 2% of your time on the things you didn’t enjoy.

Would you now be proud to show people around the gallery of your life?

The point is that you should change your life as much as it takes,
for you to not only be proud of it but to show it to others.

Ask yourself every single day if today would be a day for your gallery.

Enjoy your life to the fullest because who knows
if you aren’t doomed to wander around your gallery forever in the after-life?

My life

The world is mine to take.

I am after anyone who says I won’t make it.

I am getting everything I can while giving back double to the family.

I am not here to live for a moment but to live a whole life.

Trying anything instead of nothing just to make it.

Rather fail than not even try at all. Those who don’t try already lost.

They can say what they want but I am going to die standing up for my beliefs.

But no matter how much I achieve in my mind I am still running behind.

I am going to get everything even if you are blocking my way.
And if you are, you should better run boy ’cause I am not leaving my path.
I am going to bulldoze anything and anyone who is blocking my way.

I am tireless.
I am unstoppable.
I am the captain of my own ship.

I am moving mountains just to make it possible.

Got a dream in my head which I am going to realize.

I am not insane at most megalomaniac.

You want to fight me?
Better be prepared for never ending losses.

Size of an elephant. Willpower of a lion. Adaptability of a chameleon.
I am the fittest in the room. I am the king of the jungle.

This is my life and I am steering.

My time is now.

The Message Behind JAY-Z’s “The Story of O.J.”

Today I want to talk about JAY-Z’s newest Gem. But before that I got to give him props for going platinum with his 13th studio album “4:44” within 5 days of release. If you didn’t get a chance to listen to “4:44” yet, you should definitely wait until it is available on Spotify and iTunes because it is really worth listening to it. But today I don’t want to focus on JAY-Z’s entire album.

Today I want to take a closer look at one track especially and if you are a clever reader you might as well have already figured out which track I’m talking about. It’s “The Story of O.J.”. So without further ado let’s get to it.

The first thing you notice is the sound. Some say it sounds like elevator music but if this really would be elevator music you would find me riding the elevator 24/7 because it’s just so nice and relaxing to listen to.

Once you go deeper and actually focus on the lyrics the hidden gem gets uncovered.

“Light nigga, dark nigga, faux nigga, real nigga
Rich nigga, poor nigga, house nigga, field nigga
Still nigga, still nigga”

But Maurizius what does that actually mean? I am just seeing the N-word a lot. Well, glad you are asking!
He critisizes that in a society/system of white supremacy you are at the end of the day still a “nigger”. No matter how unsuccessful or successful you might have become over the course of your life time. Point-blank.

“I bought every V12 engine
Wish I could take it back to the beginnin’
I coulda bought a place in Dumbo before it was Dumbo
For like 2 million
That same building today is worth 25 million
Guess how I’m feelin’? Dumbo”

“You wanna know what’s more important than throwin’ away money at a strip club? Credit”

“Financial freedom my only hope
Fuck livin’ rich and dyin’ broke
I bought some artwork for 1 million
2 years later, that shit worth 2 million
Few years later, that shit worth 8 million”

Financial freedom is what we’re all after. We don’t really want the life of the rich but just the freedom they have. If you have read my latest book recommendation post, you’ll see that Tony Robbin’s “Unshakable” will give you the perfect guide to achieve exactly that. What JAY-Z is telling us is that instead of buying unnecessary stuff just to flaunt (on social media) you should start investing your money wisely. Invest in assets that will yield long term results like artwork, real estate, bonds etc. By doing that you make sure that you not only live rich but die rich as well. Like he said “Fuck livin’ rich and dyin’ broke”.

“I told him, “Please don’t die over the neighborhood
That your mama rentin’
Take your drug money and buy the neighborhood
That’s how you rinse it””

Last thing I want to focus on is that you should invest in your community. Why is that? Well, to provide jobs, security, and economic empowerment for the one’s you care about.

Now some might say this is all common sense but really who are you kidding? As with anything in life one doesn’t know anything unless he educates himself on those topics. And then there is still a huge difference between knowing something and actually turning it into reality.

Hope I could really lay out the greatness of this song for you and that you will implement some of this for your future well being.

Oh and of course you can give it a listen right now down below. Did I mention that the visuals are really impressing too?

Fast lane

Living life in the fast lane we don’t need any spurs.

Life passes us, seeing so much in so little time.

There is no room for taking breaks and breaths.

Rushing from adventure to adventure without any hope of enlightment.

We’re all after the same thing instead of pausing for a moment and taking a look around.

Like high we hover over anything with no end in sight.

Sliding from exhaustion into depression. Racing with full speed into burnout.

We aren’t living the dream just a nightmare.

I’m wondering where this will end but it won’t ever stop.

Seeking paradise in after-life while creating hell on earth.

We just want to collect as much as we can but forget that we can’t keep any of it.

We are losing ourselves.

We don’t know ourselves but that doesn’t matter as long as the numbers are right.

We are squeezing us into tailor-made suits and buy luxury cars to impress people          we don’t even care about.

Just want to join the exclusive club that merely exists in our heads.

Every morning we hang up our soul, throw away love and humanity, leave our mind on the kitchen counter and trade it all in for some designer clothes and a Mercedes key.

Wanted a life full of health, happiness, experiences, and wisdom. Instead we get lonely hotel rooms, short nights, Yeezys, and restraints.

It just keeps getting stranger.

Keep having permanent stress.

We don’t even look out the window anymore.

No sweet dreams, ’cause the stuff of what dreams are made of is sold out.

We are caught in this hamster wheel.

Aren’t allowed to leave the cage, curfew was put on us but the door to a better life is within one’s reach.

Just like Inception I would rather be trapped in my dreams but life ain’t a blockbuster.

Have to go back in time and bring the world to a stop.

Need to wake ourselves up and free us.

We could reach for the stars but reather handover the star to the concierge.

No satisfaction, love, and hope but beamer, Benz, and Bentley.

No children or marital bliss but one night stands and empty beds.

I’m wondering where this will end but it won’t ever stop.

Feeling like we have lived a thousand lives and nethertheless experienced nothing.

Speeding on the fast lane towards burnout but the last time we have looked around we were merely children.
